The Stave Church is a nearly 900-year-old wooden temple that was erected using a technology called stave technique. The construction technology is legacies left to us by the Vikings. The wooden church of Urnes (the stavkirke) stands in the natural setting of Sogn og Fjordane. It was built in the 12th and 13th centuries and is an outstanding example of traditional Scandinavian wooden architecture

Now only less than 30 of these extraordinary shaped churches remain. The church brings together traces of Celtic art, Viking traditions and Romanesque spatial structures.
