By far the best known sight in Pisa is the famous the campanile (leaning tower) which is but one of many architecturally and artistically important structures in the city's Campo dei Miracoli or Field of Miracles to the north of the old town center.
Next to the tower on the Campo dei Miracoli are three other monumental medieval building works: the Duomo (the Cathedral), the Baptistry and The Camposanto (the monumental cemetry).
Since its construction 8 centuries ago the Tower hasn't stood straight, and the defect deteriorates every year. A few years ago it even had to be seriously prevented from falling over.
